Why reading novels is so important...

Students are highly encouraged to read a minimum of 20 minutes a day. There is scientific evidence that shows reading at least a minimum of 20 minutes a day will expand comprehension of any written text immensely  In 5th Grade, we move away from at home book reports, to reading assigned in class novels that allow for enriching discussion, expansion of comprehension, and above all to learn how to develop a love for reading and knowledge. Reading and comprehension is one of the most important skills your student learns in school. We want to encourage reading all the time to help them develop this skill. When reading a novel, we can drift away into another world of fantasy. During reading we are forced to use our imagination to picture the story unfold. This is so important because in our technological age everything is feed to us in bright shinny colors with images popping up on screens all over place. When this happens WE stop using our imaginations.
